Every day a hospital's Central Sterile Services Department must receive, verify, reassemble and control thousands of surgical instruments. Orthopaedic loan and consignment sets are the hardest of it: they arrive from multiple vendors with no standard build, they are rarely marked, and reassembly runs largely on the memory of whoever is on shift.
Get it wrong and the cost lands in theatre. An incomplete tray means a delay, a last-minute substitution, sometimes a cancellation. Meanwhile AS/NZS 5369:2023 and NSQHS Standard 3 keep raising the bar on documented reprocessing, and paper-based proof is slow to produce and easy to lose.
Place a tray under the workstation. In under two minutes the AI identifies every instrument in it against a reference database of more than 350,000, flags anything missing, damaged or non-compliant, photographs the result and issues the certificate. No DataMatrix. No RFID. Nothing to mark, and on a loan set you could not mark it anyway, because it is not yours.

How it recognises
It identifies instruments the way your staff do. By looking.
There is no tag, no etched code and no vendor lock-in. AnciTrak² uses a bio-inspired feature extractor, an AI trained on shape, size, colour, perimeter, surface area, roundness, weight ratio and more than 350 other physical characteristics, to match what it sees against the ActKloud catalogue.
ATH call the fast lane Shazam mode. Put a single unknown instrument on the platform and the system returns every matching reference, the trays it belongs to and its history, in seconds. It earns its keep on mixed multi-brand trays, on new instruments arriving for the first time, and as a way for junior staff to confirm what they are holding.
Every photograph taken during a check feeds back into the database, so recognition improves the more the station is used.
Five steps, one closed loop
AnciTrak² sits in the daily flow of the CSSD rather than beside it, at loan set reception, in the packing area, and in pre-disinfection. Each stage is guided, and each one produces its own evidence.

Reception of the loan set
The set is received and registered on arrival. Build a new composition from the ActKloud database or import a pre-defined set straight from the manufacturer. Every instrument is verified by AI for presence and condition, and a digital Reception Certificate is generated and shared with the supplier.

Sending to the operating room
A single click controls the tray for completeness before it leaves. Photos document the state of the set, and an event records the despatch with the nomenclature and references attached, ready for surgery.

Post-operative control
The used set returns to decontamination. Before cleaning, AnciTrak² performs a photographic and visual check so every instrument is accounted for, and issues a Post-Use Control Certificate.

Reassembly in the clean area
The guided recomposition interface takes the operator instrument by instrument, identifying each one and showing where it belongs in the tray. A final control confirms completeness and names anything still missing.

Composition report
A digital report is generated automatically, carrying every photo taken along the way. It can be sent, downloaded or printed, and all images are stored in the cloud, closing the traceability loop and feeding the database.

AnciTrak² and ActKloud are built to sit alongside the traceability platform you already run. Open data structures and API-based bridges exchange tray composition, sterilisation events and control certificates with existing hospital software, and let the CSSD, theatre and supplier systems talk to one another.
That vendor-neutrality is deliberate. It also means the station is a workable first step toward UDI-level traceability in departments that have no tracking software at all yet.
